20 BEERS ON TAP…

So, you finish a Mountain Bike ride on Black Mountain or Ridgeline and want to grab a cold beer and food with friends? This brewery is perfect. Easy to get to from Dupont, Pisgah, or Mills River, a local favorite for years, not just for the  20 beers on tap but for the great atmosphere. You will find friendly service at the bar, with bartenders serving beers fast. There is also an in-house restaurant with a full menu where you will RECEIVE your food in 10-15 minutes. GET READY AND Prepare yourself by looking below – there is SUCH A SELECTION OF beer that you may opt to purchase a flight. FROM IPAS, BLONDE ALES, HAZY IPAS, AND SELTZERS TO PILSNERS, THEY COVER SUCH A WIDE VARIETY OF BEERS YOU CAN’T GO WRONG.

 ATMOSPHERE

This bar is WELCOMING TO ALL - family-friendly, and ideal for anyone who wants to take their group out for beers, a date after a ride/hike, or a couple of old guys like me who want to fix all the world's problems and watch football. There are two TVs at the bar with no volume (thank you, Ecusta), and rock music plays at a perfect volume level to hold a conversation. They nail the atmosphere down to the lighting and views out the windows, looking towards the mountains of Pisgah National Forest.

 THE FOOD

On this day, I ordered a FIRst Descent IPA, sat at the bar, and placed my food order at Gordingo's. The menu has many options, but you can’t go wrong with the cheesesteak. I enjoyed the additional chipotle sauce smothered on top of the cheese and meat. The fries were crispy but not burnt. Perfect. I was extremely impressed with how professional the staff was, even suggesting sides and going over what they loved on the menu. EVEN BETTER, I HAD MY FOOD IN 10 MINUTES. There are options from bowls to handhelds and, of course, tacos on the menu. Just a note: Gordingo’s is closed on Tuesdays.

 SWAG AND OTHER GOOD STUFF

They also offer plenty of swag to purchase, from shirts to long-sleeve shirts, hats, and stickers. They offer several high-quality apparel options and sell local coffee from Pisgah Coffee Roasters.

 CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE FORESTS

Located just 16 minutes from Dupont Forest and 5 minutes from Pisgah National Forest. It is longer if you are up on Avery Road, but still a short drive for a cold beer and some great food.

THE REDWOLF BLOG

This begins a series of reviews of places we love to go and the gear we use and enjoy. For those visiting Brevard, NC, it might not be easy to figure out where to grab a beer, have dinner, OR BUY SOME MOUNTAIN BIKE GEAR, and we hope these posts will help. I LIVED IN LAS VEGAS FOR 13 YEARS TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF THE WAY. I’ve eaten from Wolfgang Pucks at MGM to my favorite dive bars like Moondoggies. What they have in common is great service, GREAT FOOD, and great atmosphere. RIDING-WISE, I’M AS AVERAGE AS THEY COME BUT AM FASCINATED WITH GEAR LIKE THE REST OF THE GREAT RIDERS/GUIDES AT REDWOLF. THE IDEA IS We want to share a kind of ‘cheat sheet’ for places to go in brevard and gear we love to use AND WHERE TO BUY IT LOCALLY. We hope you enjoy what is to come as we refire the blog. - JOE MAYLISH
